Supreme Court Decision on Health Care

Darth Vader said, “The cycle is now complete. You will turn to the dark side.” On June 9, 2005 The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that (at least in Quebec), it is a violation of your right to life, liberty, and security of the person to be prevented from purchasing private health insurance.

Will Paul Martin turn to the dark side? Or has he already turned and his secret agenda to sell Canadian Health Care over to American Health Management Organizations is on its way to becoming reality? Paul Martin has stated, “This Supreme Court ruling will not affect publicly-funded health care.” Mr. Prime Minister, people dying on waiting lists are the biggest threat to publicly-funded health care.

When seven provincial courts ruled that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry, Paul Martin deferred to the judges and invoked legislation because he was “forced to do so because of rights”. But when the Supreme Court of Canada rules that Canada’s second-most populous province should permit citizens to purchase private health insurance, Paul Martin hides. His direct personal and corporate ties to insurance companies and his refusal to protect Canada’s most vulnerable will now be disclosed.

Liberal-Bloc Quebecois policy has always been to starve health care into a 2-tier system. Alternatively, Conservative policy has always been a 100% publicly-funded health system where the method of care delivery is at the discretion of the patient.
